Berkeley mobilises Citywalk project before time
Berkeley returns to the popular entertainment destination after being favoured over the IFM concept
Berkeley Services won the soft services contract for Citywalk 1, Citywalk 2 and Boxpark which began in September 2018.
The firm was initially involved when Citywalk 1 opened where it provided post-construction cleaning services, subsequently winning the contract to provide cleaning services for for a period of three years.
“In between we lost the contract because the client opted to go in for an IFM contract. But after two years we were invited once again to be part of the tendering process for its soft services. Eventually we won the contract for not only Citywalk 1, but Citywalk 2 and Boxpark as well,” Latheesh K, director, soft services said.
Berkeley also managed to go one up during the mobilisation stage of the contract.
Instead of 60 days, Berkeley’s employees were ready to begin work on site in 45 days, a feat that’s relatively uncommon in the local FM market, Latheesh claimed.
“We have around 140 staff working on all the sites, which are outdoors. Unlike shopping malls none of our staff work in covered areas. The trend that we saw from the last two to three years is that visitors come in the evening and they spend lot of time, especially in the winter, until early hours of morning,” he added.
Hence, the operations team planned its staffing rotas in a seasonal manner. “During the summer we have a different team and specific working time, and a completely different one in the winter. This ensures that we adhere to the requirement of the authorities that forbids working in outdoor spaces for a stipulated time, mostly during the afternoon,” Latheesh said.
This also means the staff are not exhausted working during peak hours of the summer season.
