Below are the Unsung Hero of the Year shorlisted nomimees in brief:
Abdul Gafoor - Farnek
Abdul Gafoor is involved in both strategic planning and day-to-day operations. He manages and leads change to ensure minimum disruption to core business activities. He also provides leadership and guidance at all levels. Gafoor is responsible for creating a customer-focused culture that is based on delivering results
Amanath Shahal - Emrill
Amanath Shahal is a lifeguard at Oceana Residences, located in Dubai’s prestigious Palm Jumeirah. His duties include: Overseeing any activities taking place at the swimming pool; Explaining and enforcing rules, regulations and policies to ensure the safety of residents and visitors while using the swimming pool facilities; Monitoring designated areas to recognise signs of danger; Warning swimmers regarding unsafe situations; Maintaining order in swimming areas; Responding to emergencies and rescuing swimmers in danger of drowning, among other duties. In September, Amanath rescued a four-year-old boy from drowning in the pool.
Betia Raseta - Sodexo
Betia Raseta is a woman of African origin managing one of the most high-profile clients in the Defence segment in Sodexo Middle East’s portfolio. Raseta joined Sodexo in 2009 to manage one of Sodexo’s projects in Africa and since then has worked extensively across Africa and the Middle East managing clients in the Mining and Defence segments. In 2018, she took up the role of Project Manager for one of Sodexo’s high profile Defence contracts in Abu Dhabi. She mobilised the contract and now is responsible for the daily operation with a team of 70 team members.
Hossam Gamal - Ejadah
Hossam Gamal is employed as a security guard with Ejadah. Gamal has been employed with Ejadah for the last six years. He is a capable and experienced security guard that is well liked by his colleagues and peers. According to Ejadah, he is always dedicated to his duty and is a model employee.
Mihail Garbis -Al Futtaim Engineering and Technology
Mihail Garbis is a Facilities Manager in charge of handling operation for District Cooling Plant in Dubai Festival City. With his engineering excellence and innovative project, he has contributed to the company's reputation. Garbis always strives for excellence and is a true example that hard work does not go unnoticed.
Muthu Kumar - Reliance FM
Muthu Kumar's role includes controlling and monitoring day-to-day operation activities; Vendor/ Contract management; Overseeing all the activities, managing and supporting the site technicians; Refine Operations to Maximize Efficiency; Analyze Material and Labor Cost; and Preparing monthly management reports & attending meeting with clients.
Tariq Ishaque - Transguard
In the last year, Tariq Ishaque has been one of Transguard’s most impressive examples of operational excellence and customer service. Well-respected and sought after by his clients for his calm demeanor, wise counsel and unshakeable ability to find a solution to every problem, Ishaque is passionate about doing the right thing for his customers and for his staff.
Taher Ali Maqbool - ServeU
28th June 2019 was just another day for Taher Maqbool until he started his cleaning shift at Al Sabkha parking area where he found 15kg of gold worth of AED2.5m in a black bag, and without hesitation, Maqbool handed the 15kg of gold to the authorities. In recognition of his honesty, Maqbool was given a plaque by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), as well as ServeU Management and was promoted as a Team Leader at ServeU for the level of integrity shown.
