Al Ain Municipality knocks down 175 homes
Team oversees demolition of houses that violated building regulations
Al Ain Municipality has demolished 175 homes within the past two years in a bid to improve the city's appearance, according to reports.
The municipality said that a technical team was set up to oversee the work, which was taken out because many of the buildings were in a poor state of repair with some being deemed a threat to residents' safety.
Many of the buildings had been built in violation of the municipality's construction rules and some were being used illegally either as parking lots or as factories.
According to Gulf News, the head of the supervisory committee, Shaleyah Al Shamsi, said that prior to demolition the municipality ran an awareness campaign warning that the buildings were in violation of building regulations.
The municipality also called for residents to stick to construction, safety and environmental rules.
