Young FM title nabbed by Cofely Besix FM candidate
35-year-old Nihal Birjerane scoops Young FM of the Year award
Nihal Birjerane of Cofely Besix Facility Management picked up the award for Young Facilities Manager of the Year at last night's facilities management Middle East Awards.
Birjerane saw off competition from an Emaar Community Management manager, a Nakheel entry, one from Macro International, and one from ADNEC.
Over the past two years, Birjerane, who turned 35 last week, has been responsible for managing the Al Gurm Villas and Resort located in Abu Dhabi. In this role, he managed to save the client over $54,500 (AED: 200,000) during the warranty period.
When asked how he felt about the win, he said: "It’s a surprise for me. If I won, it means the company has done a great job.
"This award doesn’t just go to me; it goes to my company, because they put the effort into making me perfect. My staff is my asset, and this is the outcome."
He impressed the judges with his involvement in wider community initiatives. According to the judges, the winner showed a “solid performance” and contributed to “commendable and sustainable savings” being made. Judges also pointed to his “proven track record.”
Birjerane added: "It’s a big achievement because my job is one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life."
Hitting all KPIs set by the client, Birjerane is a firm believer in staff development and works closely to ensure his team evolves and attains higher goals. He is an active participant and founder of sustainability initiatives within his project boundaries, including formalising green cleaning policies for the site.
He has 11 years of experience working in the UAE within facilities management, and also recently successfully completed the Associate Facility Manger program awarded by MEFMA.
