New carpet to reduce lighting costs by up to 10%
Desso's carpet to increase room brightness by up to 14%; cut bills
Desso has introduced a new carpet collection to the Middle East region - the Desso Light Reflection Master, which can increase the brightness of a room by up to 14% , and can cut lighting bills by up to 10%, the company claims.
"The Desso Light Reflection Master collection consists of a range of light shaded carpet tiles, increasing the light reflection in a room. The higher the reflection, the less artificial light is required. As a result lighting costs can be reduced, saving energy and reducing carbon emissions,” said Andre Dulka, regional director, Middle East, Africa & India, Desso.
According to the latest Asteco Dubai property report, the amount of new office space in Dubai alone could potentially grow by 1.6 million m2 this year - a 17% increase.
The majority of that new space is open-plan, which tends to need more lighting and therefore consumes more energy. And even though the UAE on average enjoys more than nine hours of sunshine a day, many offices still rely on artificial lighting.
The collection's Light Reflectance Value is high, which would help improve the brightness on the office walls and ceilings.
"A lighter environment produces greater light reflection. More specifically, ceilings, walls and floors can be designed to produce greater levels of light reflection because they cover large surfaces areas as well," added Dulka.
With the average employee spending as much as 1,880 hours per year (over 21% of their time) in an office environment, improved lighting can lead to an increased level of health, productivity and an improved feeling of comfort and security, saving energy and money at the same time."
