DEWA organises Arweehom campaign for its employees
The campaign reached 1,200 of DEWA's employees in Dubai
Given the success of its Arweehom (Arabic for ‘Quench their Thirst’) campaign in the last two years, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) recently organised the same CSR initiative for the third consecutive year.
Arweehom provides DEWA employees and labourers of contracting companies working in DEWA’s projects with meals, bottles of cold water and food-storage bags.
The campaign also distributed to labourers leaflets about the importance of drinking lots of water during summer.
The campaign maintains ties between management and staff and promotes best practices for building a stimulating working environment by appreciating the efforts of DEWA’s employees and its contractors’ employees as well.
“DEWA adopts a strategy that enhances its social responsibility by promoting the values of giving, solidarity and volunteerism among its staff and customers,” said H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. “This is achieved through various activities and programmes that spread awareness throughout society, enhances cooperation and solidarity and boosts sustainable development,”
Al Tayer thanked all the employees who took part in this initiative, which is key to DEWA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives.
“We are pleased to be part of DEWA’s leading initiatives that help to build a safe and sound society, preserve the environment and raise awareness about the importance of drinking enough water. Such initiatives contribute to enhancing sustainable development in Dubai,” noted Duh Ian Han, site engineer at Korean company, Doosan.
Arweehom is one of DEWA’s important social initiatives that promote CSR and volunteerism among its different sectors. The success of the campaign in the last two years has increased awareness about its importance and led to expanding the areas it covers and the number of labourers it serves.
The 2014 campaign delivered supplies to 1,200 labourers, compared to 400 in 2013.
This year’s campaign covered various areas in Dubai including water pipe-laying sites in Dubai Sports City, DEWA main building, its two building in Warsan and Al Quoz. It also helped labourers in Jebel Ali Power Station in cooperation with Doosan.
