Empower facility achieves LEED Gold certification
The district cooling service provider’s second Business Bay facility attains LEED Gold certification.
Empower, a district cooling service provider, has announced that its second Business Bay facility has attained a Gold rating in Leader in Energy Efficient Design (LEED).
The certification is a global benchmark in sustainable design and is awarded by the US Green Building Council.
Commenting on the certification, HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, shared: “This LEED certification is a testament to the UAE’s emergence as one of the most dynamic markets for green buildings.”
The second Business Bay facility launched back in August 2014, services structures from Sheikh Zayed Road, all the way to Al Khail Road. It boasts a capacity of 45,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT). Combined with the second facility in the area, Empower is capable of delivering 90,000 RT to around 90 buildings.
The two facilities are integral components of the district cooling service provider’s plans to form a multi-facility network. Servicing residential, retail and commercial real estate developments, Empower is positioning itself to deliver up to 300,000 RT of cooling services in the Business Bay area.
"Sustainability is a core value at Empower and is integrated into our operations, as our plants use less energy to provide safe and reliable cooling services to thousands of people in Dubai,” added Bin Shafar.
