Hospitals focus on patient care and sustainability
Incorporating environmentally friendly and sustainable initiatives, as well as nursing and patient friendly practices, listed as top priority in MENA.
According to a recent survey produced by Informa, patient care and sustainability practices were listed a lead priority in MENA hospital design and construction.
The multinational publishing and events company shared its survey with architects, engineers and project heads from hospitals across the region.
The results of the report were unveiled in the lead up to the 12th edition of Hospital Design and Infrastructure conference. The event is set to run from 19 – 22 April 2015 at The Address Hotel Dubai Mall.
Findings from the report detailed four challenges arising with the construction of healthcare facilities. These included project management, identifying the right talent for design and construction, as well as identifying suppliers for medical equipment and finally licensing and accreditation.
The report also listed air quality as a top topic amongst 81% of respondents. Lighting concerns were also listed by 49% of respondents, while landscapes was cited by 48%.
Dr. Layla Al Marzouqi, director of Health Regulation Department at the Dubai Health Authority, shared: “Hospital design helps in effective delivery of healthcare and goes a long way in improving patient friendliness. With advances in design, technology and access to updated knowledge, hospital designs have advanced tremendously over the years and surveys such as this one are vital to highlight challenges and advances in hospital design."
Similarly, Lydia Fowler, divisional director at Informa, organisers of Hospital Design and Infrastructure, added: "The survey findings have outlined pertinent challenges being faced across the region when it comes to the building of new healthcare facilities. Our conference programme has been specifically designed to address some of those challenges. It creates a platform for leading healthcare experts and industry players to come together to discuss solutions."
