5 Minutes With: Suneesh Kurup
Suneesh Kurup, Executive Director, Power Group
0.00: What does your role involve?
Serving as the group head, all functional, strategic and operational affairs of the company on a day-to-day basis are channeled and addressed through my desk. However, as a facilities management professional, I am more personally involved, interacting and mentoring my FM department team, in order to ensure that contractual delivery in various sectors is consistently streamlined.
1.45: What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
To nail down and establish sustainable relationship with professionals, from the staff to business partners, sometimes is a real challenge. One of the momentous integrating elements in FM industry is ‘people’, and all those involved in a particular project, should always be readily available, in order to stay on the same page, speaking same language.
2.05: What do you love most about your job?
FM has been my passion for the past 25 years, and I love to be involved in delivering value to all my clients. Wherever possible, I find the time to personally meet with my stakeholders and clients, in order to remain in line with the expectations predefined.
3.00: Where do you see the FM industry in 5 years?
Unlike other industries, facilities management is one of the most sustainable businesses tested, even during the global downturns in the past. I foresee a more affluent future for the industry, especially here in the Middle East and Asia, as the core business remains significant even after saturation.
4.05: What has been your most memorable project and why?
None of my previous projects are distinct, as each project is unique with its own characteristics. Although our service levels are measured with the same or similar objectives of KPIs, every facility has its own way of absorbing services, and the people occupying the building have their own way of measuring it. Therefore all my projects are equally memorable.
4.45: What do you like to do most in your spare time?
I’m not sure whether I have much spare time, or name it as such, but I like to have a quiet moment whenever possible, listening to instrumental music. I also do like the occasional long drive as well.
