Bee’ah expands rewards programme in Al Qasba and Dubai Airport
New RVMs to address increase in demands, after number of participants exceeds a total of 33,000 in just two months
Bee'ah has installed two additional ‘reverse vending machines’ (RVMs) at Al Qasba and Terminal 3 of the Dubai International Airport.
The announcement follows a higher than usual participation in the Bee’ah Rewards programme, during April and May, where collection receipts reached a total of 33,000.
Launched at the start of this year, during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, Bee’ah Rewards is a CSR initiative that hopes to inculcate recycling habits in the UAE population by incentivising participants.
Over a period of five months, participation in the programme has shown an increase in collection receipts, which amount to 33,000, in contrast to 890 registered in January 2017.
Bee’ah RVMs are now available across the American University of Sharjah, Dibba Al Hisn Municipality in the eastern region of Sharjah and Al Qasba.
In Dubai, the RVMs are available at the Dubai Marina Mall and Terminal 3 of the Dubai International Airport.
Further installations will soon follow at the Dubai Design District, Dubai World Trade Centre and parts of Abu Dhabi.
Bee’ah chief development officer, Fahad Shehail, said: “The expansion of Bee’ah Rewards is in direct response to the positive input we have received from the public. Their enthusiastic participation has motivated us to accelerate the transition from a linear model of consumption to resource recovery on a larger scale."
In addition to building a more sustainable future for the community, the RVMs have been successful in integrating recycling into the routine of many residents,” Shehail said.
All members of the public are eligible to participate in the programme by depositing a recyclable beverage can or bottle into the RVM, they will receive a receipt with a unique code. The code can then be scanned through the Bee’ah App to gain direct entry into the monthly draw. Winners are announced at the start of every month through Bee’ah’s social media accounts.
For April, Sunjiv Priyar Damai won a trip to the Maldives, while Papu Singh Gurung won an iPhone.
For the previous month, Kn Sharif Kn Kadar won a getaway to Seychelles, and Ryan Espina Geronggay, received a GoPro Hero camera.
Several other winners also took home prizes for their recycling efforts.
