Dubai Municipality collects one million plastic bottles in five days
PET drinking water bottles amounting to 2,000 kilograms were collected
Dubai Municipality’s Waste Management Department collected approximately one million plastic bottles in five days as part of the authorities ‘Giant Bag’ initiative held at the Lulu Hypermarket in Al Barsha.
PET drinking water bottles amounting to 2,000 kilograms were collected from residents and visitors to the shopping centre.
The initiative was aimed at spreading and establishing a culture of sorting waste and enhancing environmental awareness among Dubai’s residents.
The ‘Giant Bag’ – measured seven meters in height and three meters wide - was manufactured from recyclable materials in cooperation with Paper Chase International.
The initiative comes within the framework of the strategic directions of Dubai Municipality to interact with the community and encourage them to contribute to environmental efforts in conjunction with the launch of the 24th Clean up the World campaign.
Abdulmajeed Sifai, Director of Waste Management Departments said: “Our aim is to establish a culture of sorting waste from the source, classifying it according to value and raising the level of environmental awareness among the public, especially those who frequent the malls and markets.”
