We are involved with a prominent port in Abu Dhabi where we provide TFM solutions for 126 buidings. We also provide operation and maintenance services at various residential towers. Our other contracts include a highly known bank from Abu Dhabi (TFM services), commercial buildings and a district cooling plant. We are also ever-present across many assets in Sharjah — which includes comprehensive contracts and scope of work with the Government of Sharjah, through our strategic partner Sharjah Assets Management holding.
How challenging is it to win new FM contracts in the UAE?
Based on our experience, the challenges we have faced as an FM services provider in the UAE stems from the high expectation from the client. Innovations implemented by every FM service provider has driven the FM market more into green and environmental friendly solutions. Other challenges include staffing regulations, attracting and retaining talent as per the client feedback and satisfaction. Finally, costing is another huge factor in determining new contracts which depends a lot on competitors’ strategy of costing. As a result the FM sector is a well-developed industry today, focused on flexibility, sustainability, agility, which is able to respond to market pressures.
What are your expansion plans?
We have adopted a SWOT analysis for growth; in which Apleona will gather its management team and analyse each of our strengths and weaknesses: marketing, sales, production, technology, human resources, customer service, etc. Consequently, Apleona will develop strategic plans to expand to neighbouring GCC countries in the future.
What is your outlook for 2018?
Its promising, especially in terms of FM projects all over the UAE and especially in Dubai where the preparation of Expo 2020 is on in full swing with our sustainable competitive advantages holding us in good stead.
What functions do you currently outsource, and which of those are you looking to bring in-house?
Apleona considers the operation and maintenance of MEP, minor civil and fabric services as the core business of the company. We have been acquiring the know-how for a decade (in UAE Market) and we have established methodologies and maintenance standards which are widely broadcasted. Apleona believes in self-delivering services. Our strategy is to utilise our skilled team to deliver most of what is mentioned in our scope of work, and we only use a specialised subcontractor rare scenarios.
