OCS Emirates looking to grow market share in the Gulf
With the group having made its mark in the GCC, OCS is eyeing new sectors such as aviation having made its presence felt in healthcare FM
UK-based OCS Group kicked off operations in the UAE in 2013, starting out with a small team and the support of OCS’ global brand, and a joint venture with UAE’s oil and gas conglomerate United Technical Services, OCS Emirates’ workforce has now past the 1,000 employee mark in a relatively short span of time.
Fiona McDonnell, general manager OCS Emirates gives an overview of the achievements of the business and its subsequent expansion. “Recent expansion has seen our operations in UAE grow significantly, with revenues approaching £25 million, within just five years of operation. Our growth rate in the UAE was 88% in 2017, and is set to continue in 2018 bolstered further by a prestigious TFM Healthcare contract award,” McDonnell says.
The scope of work includes providing 14 services over a five year contract, She adds: “We have set ambitious targets for 2018 for the UAE team, with optimistic performance expectations year-on-year, with some exciting opportunities identified. Our current operations have seen great success in healthcare and retail, and we are looking to expand our verticals into aviation, leisure and the residential sectors.”
Aviation is one of the company’s key ‘strengths’ with expertise built in operations across the world, with some of the world’s busiest airports and largest airlines under OCS’ management. OCS Group is involved in direct delivery of services and joint venture operations where core processes, technical support and expertise are provided as part of the partnership. “As international travel shows no sign of slowing, this is an area where we expect to see further growth in the forthcoming years, at prestige projects such as Midfield Terminal,” McDonnell adds.
OCS Emirates’ operations are underpinned by ISO9001 Quality Assurance Management. McDonnell notes: “The safety of our staff is supported by robust health and safety standards, developed and overseen from the UK health and safety teams, and are implemented across all operations to the highest technical standards, systems and processes.”
In 2015, OCS was awarded the UK Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of international trade. OCS Group LTD also made a big sweep at the ROSPA awards, picking up five gold awards in 2017 and again in 2018.
OCS was originally founded in 1900 by Frederick Goodliffe, a family man whose fourth and fifth generation descendants are still active in the company. “Our values and company philosophy very much reflect this family approach, and we are proud to be seen as focused as much on our colleagues around the world as well as our customers,” McDonnell says.
One hundred years of growth and diversification have seen the company expand from it’s original beginnings as a window cleaning company with a barrow, bucket and ladder to an organisation operating in 16 countries around the world, with excess of 90;000 employees providing services such as cleaning, security, catering and engineering as well as niche operations such as PRM (persons with reduced mobility), aircraft grooming and presentation, and aviation laundry.
Outside the UK and Middle East, OCS operate in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand and China.
