FM and the fourth industrial revolution
FM guru Stan Mitchell talks about valuable new trends in the FM world
FM is going to be one of the most impacted industries with the onset of the fourth industrial revolution according to Stan Mitchell, CEO, Key FM.
Mitchell, who is based in the UK, is known as a FM pundit and was most recently involved in putting together the FM ISO 41001.
At the recently held MEFMA Confex in Dubai Mitchell divulged more about the trend.
“A lot of people are passionately talking about the fourth industrial revolution, and I strongly believe that the fourth industrial revolution is about standardisation and digitisation. When you put the two together they can add some value to the world of FM,” he said.
Mitchell also said that the autonomous building of the future, is already with us and will be more autonomous in the next few years.
“The building and all of its components will be able to reveal more about what services it needs. Nanosecond FM in the autonomous building is not a concept but it’s hear and happening today.
“As an FM company we are not interested in the technologies that are available on the shelf, our focus is to integrate technologies that already exist along with the emerging ones. Digitisation and data does absolutely nothing, its the analysis that takes place that can turn that data back into something valuable.”
He also advised FM companies to look into FM tech suppliers that that can help service providers show the frequency of people in a particular place. “This granular and real-time information will help FM operators allocate cleaners in the right manner as you will be made aware of traffic and footfall in a washroom, cafeteria etc.”
