Clean Up UAE initiative collects 39 tonnes of waste in 2019
Participants managed to collect 2.5 tonnes of waste from Sharjah, 3 tonnes from Umm Al Quwain, 5 tonnes from Ajman, 12.5 tonnes from Dubai, 16.8 tonnes from Abu Dhabi, 1.5 tonnes from Fujairah, and 1.5 tonnes from Ras Al Khaimah.
“Clean up UAE” annual campaign successfully collected 39 tonnes of waste across the seven emirates
Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group announced the achievements of the 18th cycle of the annual “Clean up UAE” campaign, after exceeding the expectations for the total number of participations across the emirates and the total amount of waste collected and recycled effectively. The campaign was successfully conducted under the Patronage of the Ministry of Economy and in the presence of the Minister in the Emirate of Dubai for the third year in a row.
She stated that the 27,865 participants successfully collected 39 tonnes of waste of which 1,420 kg were segregated for recycling. The participants were able to cover a total area of 54.5 km2 whereby 3.5 km was covered in sharjah, 3 km in Umm Al Quwain, 5 km in Ajman, 18 km in Dubai, 20 km in Abu Dhabi, 2 km in Fujairah, and finally 3 km in Ras Al Khaimah respectively.

She affirmed her affiliation and pride towards this campaign that grew stronger throughout the years, where a great deal of effort was put by EEG into this year’s campaign to make it the biggest one yet; with the help of our participants and the environment caregivers from various sectors of the community.
She emphasised on the importance of raising environmental awareness in light of the growing environmental challenges that we are facing nowadays and threatens the developmental path of the country.
She also added, that EEG launched the “Clean Up UAE” campaign for the first time in 2002 with the participation of 4,500 people in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman. And in 2005, the campaign expanded to reach all 7 Emirates of the UAE, with the participation of 15,000 participants. As a result, the spirit of team work and “patriotism” became the heart and soul of this campaign that is conducted in December every year with the noble goal of keeping UAE clean, and prioritising the health and wellbeing of our environment throughout the year.
