fmME delves below corporate strategy to understand what makes the region’s FM professionals tick
Tell us a little about DSC Facilities Services?
DSC Facilities Services (DSC FS) is an integrated service provider which offers technical solutions to our clientele with the objective of enhancing the efficiency and extending the life cycle of the assets within the developments and properties that we maintain.
What are a few projects currently managed by DSC FS
There are several projects currently under DSC FS’s purview. A few of these include the International Cricket Council — technical services, landscaping, pest control, waste management; GEMS International — technical hard services, cleaning, landscaping, pest control; villa communities in Victory Heights — technical services, cleaning, landscaping. We also have several contracts with owners associations and private villa owners.
How does DM’s new directive affect DSC’s self-sufficient strategy?
DSC has its own Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) as a permanent fixture. However, recent strategic changes by DM says they wish to operate all STP facilities within Dubai and therefore we have been advised that our STP must close within the next few years. As a result, this now means the master community will be required to buy most of its TSE water from the Municipality, and in future all of it.
Tell us a few challenges that come with managing a master community
Challenges in a master community arise because there can be so many Owners Associations e.g. each building or each estate has its own community to maintain as well as their contribution to the master community. The master developer is responsible for collecting the fees and managing the maintenance of the entire community. The current governing bodies are TRAKHEES and RERA and Dubai Sports City and its communities are governed by RERA. Sports City Owners Association Management Services (SOAMS) currently manage the master community on behalf of the developer as well as a number of other community owners associations with the estate.
Tell is about DSC’s sustainability plans
All street lights in the community have been converted to solar power in line with our self-sufficient policy. These street lights are centrally controlled via a Wi-Fi mesh which feeds all street light operating parameters back to a central control and monitoring computer and this gives us complete control, down to individual street lights.
